Difference between Belting Leather and Garment Leather.
Here is a quick explanation of the difference between belting leather and garment leather.
Belting leather is just that, heavier thick flat smooth dull looking leather. It is unfinished on the back and has the exposed suede or rough back. It is not as flexible as garment.
Garment leather is very soft pliable leather. A single layer is a little less that half the thickness as our belting leather. Our garment leather items are made with 3 layer of garment leather. We use a tri-fold method of making our garment leather. We first cut the leather 3 times wider than we want to make, we then spread a rubber cement on the back of the garment leather. We then make the tri-fold like folding a letter to stuff in an envelope. This way there is only 1 exposed edge. We then sew around the entire edge of the strap to ensure it never comes unfolded. This gives the harness a very dressy look. Garment leather has a texture and slight shine unlike belting and it is extremely soft, flexible and easy on the skin.
I have included 6 photos below for you to comparing the difference between garment and belting leather.
We offer both kind of leather because everyone has different taste in what they are looking for as for the look and the feel of leather. I personally like the look and the super soft feel of garment leather. However, we sell about 2 belting leather harnesses to every garment leather harness. You may ask, does the price difference play a part in this? Your guess is as good as mine.
